Prepare to have your heart broken. These pictures show an infant elephant calf named Zhuang-zhuang sobbing wildly for five hours after needing to be divided from his mother at the Shendiaoshan wildlife reserve in Rong-cheng, China. After his mother was seen attempting to kick and smash the poor calf, Zhuang-zhuang was taken away and treated for his wounds.
Zoo managers trusted that the assault was a mishap, and discharged him to be with his mother, just to be assaulted once more. He must be divided again to spare his life, and has since been received by one of the zoo managers. The mother’s response to her calf is presumably an impact of life in bondage, as creatures’ defensive senses might be modified when they live outside of their conventional social structures.
He was weeping for five straight hours after his mother rejected him. “He couldn’t bear to be parted from his mother and it was his mother who was trying to kill him.”
The zookeepers treated his damages and, with the trust that it was simply a mischance, discharged him over to his mother. Shockingly, his mother attempted to stamp him once more, so he must be separated from his mother at all times.
Fortunately, Zhuang-zhuang is fine now after embracing the zookeeper who had spared his life at the Shendiaoshan reserve in Rong-cheng.
